Everyone Can Benefit From Custom Orthotics

Did you know that during an average day, the total force of walking can total hundreds of tons? In fact these tons are equivalent to a fully loaded Custom Foot Orthotics cement truck. So it seems a little ridiculous to say that our feet take a lot of wear and tear on even the most normal of days. So if you’re an athlete or just a regular exerciser, you may be noticing this wear and tear a bit faster. And if you’re currently training for the 2014 Brooklyn Marathon on November 16th, then you may be noticing more aches and pains than usual. Instead of cutting down on the things you love, consider getting custom orthotics so you can feel great crossing the finish line this year.

What are orthotics?

Sometimes known as arch support, custom orthotics gives people the freedom to stand and move easier and more comfortably. Some people might opt for the over-the-counter orthotics because of convenience; however, because there are a number of reasons for foot pain, over-the-counter orthotics are often not enough to alleviate symptoms. Instead, consider getting custom orthotics that are designed to correct your specific foot problems, ease symptoms and make it easier for you to get back to your life.

Here are the types of custom orthotics to choose from:

Rigid Orthotics

Rigid orthotics are often made from harder materials like plastic or carbon fiber and are used to control function. They also help to control motion in the foot joints found below the ankle joint. They are most often used with walking shoes or dress shoes as they help with strains, aches and pains in the legs, thighs and lower back.

Soft Orthotics

Just like the name states, soft orthotics are made out of more cushioned materials so they can act as shock absorbers, help with balance and relieve pressure. They also cradle the sole of the foot and support everything from the heel and ball all the way to your toes. Since soft orthotics help to absorb shock, they can be a good option for athletes and those with active lifestyles.

Semi-Rigid Orthotics

Semi-rigid orthotics can also be a great option for sports players as they provide good balance. As the name implies, semi-rigid orthotics are made with layers of soft material that are backed by rigid material. While this type is great for avid walkers and the like, semi-rigid orthotics are also prescribed to treat flatfoot and other foot disorders in children. If you’re planning on running the Brooklyn marathon this year and you’re experiencing foot pain, semi-rigid orthotics might help relieve some of the discomfort you’re feeling while training.

Don’t let foot problems bench you! Sometimes all that’s needed is a good, customized pair of orthotics to get you up and moving again. If you want to find out more about custom orthotics in Brooklyn, call us at (718) 236-5253.
